A Decade of Innovation and Impact: The Verita Neuro Journey

Reflecting On 10 Years of Verita Neuro

July 2025 marks a significant milestone: Verita Neuro’s 10 Year Anniversary. After a decade of relentless innovation and life-changing outcomes, Hanna Charles, our Chief Growth Officer and Director of Patient Services, reflects on Verita Neuro’s most significant achievements to date.

From performing the world’s first Epidural Stimulation treatment outside of clinical trials to delivering over 300 successful implantations to date. We’ve launched two treatments of our own design (Brain Stimulation and LamiSpine), developed advanced Stem Cell treatments, established services in Thailand and Mexico and now consistently treat over 200 patients every year, from over 50 countries.

And we’re only just getting started. With exciting plans for global expansion on the horizon and with our Artificial Intelligence research well underway, we’re continuing to redefine what’s possible for patients recovering from complex neurological conditions.

Our Founding Mission: Redefining What’s Possible

From the very beginning, Verita Neuro was driven by an ambitious vision to restore function and improve the lives of individuals with paraplegia, quadriplegia, and other complex neurological conditions.

We have always been committed to bringing the most promising research developments from the lab bench to the bedside, making revolutionary treatments accessible for patients right here, right now.

This ethos of innovation led us to try a completely new approach in treating paralysis through neuromodulation. From our inception, we had our eye on Epidural Stimulation and advanced Stem Cell treatment, long before these treatments began to be available outside of the lab.

Ambitious Beginnings: The World’s First Epidural Stimulation Treatment

The journey began in July 2015 at our Verita Neuro headquarters in Singapore, when we commenced operations with a focus on Research and Development. In November of that year, we worked with our partner hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, to perform the world’s first Epidural Stimulation treatment outside of clinical trials.

Until this point, Epidural Stimulation had only been used in clinical trials in the USA and was not widely acknowledged by neurologists or orthopedic doctors.

This innovative procedure involves the surgical implantation of electrodes onto the spinal cord, which are then precisely controlled by a remote device. The implant functions by facilitating the connection of neural signals from the patient’s brain to the spinal cord tissue below the level of injury, thereby reactivating neural pathways.

Opening Our First Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand

Verita Neuro was established with a team of world-class Neurosurgeons and Physical Therapists, with extensive experience in regenerative medicine. We had a shared vision to create a one-of-a-kind space for functional recovery.

In April 2016, this vision was brought to life when we delivered our first end-to-end treatment at our own hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. Following the initial Epidural Stimulation surgery, patients were able to receive 35 days of intensive, personalized physiotherapy, all under one roof.

Since then, we’ve been providing this treatment to a growing number of patients each year and have witnessed transformative results. For patients with severe spinal cord injury, the ability to regain movement and to take steps with the assistance of a walker became a reality. Watching this profound success continued to drive our team at Verita Neuro forward in our pursuit of developing the best possible care for our patients.

LamiSpine: Treating Spinal Injuries with Advanced Stem Cells

Our initial years were characterized by continuous refinement of protocols and a steadfast commitment to patient outcomes. This dedication fueled the enhancement of our therapeutic offerings, as we continued to research more advanced treatments for our patients.

In 2017, Verita Neuro introduced LamiSpine, further broadening our surgical capabilities and providing more comprehensive solutions for spinal cord injury treatment. The LamiSpine procedure involves the surgical implantation of Stem Cells directly onto the border of healthy and injured spinal cord sections. This treatment remains available exclusively at Verita Neuro.

Driving Forward: Treatments for Quadriplegia

By 2020, the scope of Epidural Stimulation expanded when we administered our first dual Epidural Stimulation treatment, with one stimulator located at the Cervical Spinal level.

This advancement allowed us to begin treating quadriplegic patients, and the benefits for patients became even more promising. With the Cervical Epidural Stimulator, helping patients regain essential functions such as the ability to eat, drink and self-transfer.

BrainStim: Treatments for Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury

That same year, we launched BrainStim, a further innovation in the field of Epidural Stimulation. A treatment of our own design, this involves the implantation of a stimulator over the motor cortex; This is the area of the brain responsible for movement.

Expanding Our Reach: Opening the Doors to our Hospital in Mexico

Recognizing the growing international demand for these specialized treatments, Verita Neuro initiated operations in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2020. Two years later, in 2022, this evolved into a new, state-of-the-art Verita Neuro hospital. In January 2023, we opened our in-house Stem Cell lab, allowing us to deliver the freshest, highest quality Stem Cells directly to patients.

A Decade of Patient Success Stories

Over the past decade, Verita Neuro has achieved remarkable growth. Successfully delivering over 300 Epidural Stimulation procedures, hundreds of advanced Stem Cell treatments, and thousands of hours of specialised rehabilitation. Today, we support more than 200 patients annually across our full portfolio of innovative treatments.

The impact of Verita Neuro’s work is most powerfully demonstrated through its patient outcomes. Clinical data highlights significant improvements: 95% of patients who received Epidural Stimulation demonstrated better motor function, ranging from mild to significant improvements.

Furthermore, 99% of patients experienced verified improvements in stamina, muscle mass, balance, and gross motor skills. These results are not merely statistics but represent profound transformations in individuals’ lives.

Beyond motor recovery, the improvements in autonomic functions have been substantial, with 62% of spinal cord injury patients reporting significant positive changes in bowel, bladder, and blood pressure regulation. These improvements in autonomic functions, crucial for overall quality of life, have been independently verified by scientists at the University of British Columbia, Canada.

The efficacy of Epidural Stimulation is further supported by published clinical research data from esteemed institutions such as the University of Louisville, Stanford University, and the University of California, Los Angeles, which have consistently shown significant recovery in motor areas and the reawakening of neural connections following epidural electrical stimulation.

Looking Forward: The Next Chapter of Innovation

Global Expansion

Currently, we operate out of two hospitals: one in Bangkok, Thailand, and the other in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2022, we officially partnered with Synaptic Neuro Rehabilitation Centre in Calgary, Canada, allowing us to provide post-treatment rehab closer to home for North American patients. This expansion continues, with clinics in Europe and the Middle East in the pipeline, we’re committed to bringing our industry-leading treatments to patients worldwide.

Advanced Treatments with Artificial Intelligence

In Verita Neuro’s next chapter, our commitment to innovation remains central to our mission.

A significant focus is now directed towards leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize Epidural Stimulation mapping, significantly reducing the hours of manual labour required for the treatment.

Mapping is the process during which our Physical Therapists calibrate a patient’s Epidural Stimulator, to create a personalized stimulation program. Therapists test different electrode combinations, frequencies, and pulse intensities while the patient attempts specific movements. This careful tuning helps activate key muscles and restore voluntary control over motor and autonomic functions. This process is completely customized to each individual’s needs and requires a highly trained Physical Therapist.

Currently, the process of mapping requires approximately 120 hours of expert manual labour per patient. However, with our research into AI, this process is poised for a transformative shift.

Verita Neuro is actively developing a proprietary AI algorithm designed to streamline and enhance this critical aspect of treatment. The AI initiative is structured in two distinct phases.

AI Development: Phase One

Phase One is dedicated to constructing a robust model capable of classifying patient actions based on specific stimulation parameters, including electrode selection, pulse width, frequency, and intensity. This foundational work is essential for establishing a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationship between stimulation inputs and patient responses.

AI Development: Phase Two

Upon achieving sufficient accuracy in this classification, the project will advance to Phase 2. This subsequent phase involves the development of a generative AI model, conceptually similar to advanced language models, but specifically engineered to suggest optimal parameter settings for targeted actions. This innovative approach promises to significantly improve the efficiency of patient mapping by providing Therapists with data-driven starting points, thereby substantially reducing the time required to identify effective stimulation programs.

Leading the Research Field

Verita Neuro’s cutting-edge technological advancement not only solidifies our position at the forefront of Epidural Stimulation but also creates opportunities for impactful publications in leading scientific journals. We’re committed not only to bringing treatments directly to our patients but also to influencing the entire field of research.

The past decade has been a testament to Verita Neuro’s dedication to advancing regenerative medicine and neurological recovery. As part of the Verita Healthcare Group, the organization has pioneered the research, development, and commercialization of advanced treatments for spinal cord injury and neurological disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, ataxia and multiple sclerosis. Since 2015, Verita Neuro has consistently helped patients regain control over their lives through its integrated protocols.

Thank You!

Looking forward, Verita Neuro remains committed to pushing the boundaries of medical science, embracing technological advancements and continuing vital work in fostering real recovery for patients worldwide.

This would not be possible without our patients believing in us. We’re proud to have created a place where real recovery starts and where like-minded people come together to think outside of the box to achieve a common goal.

Here’s to the next chapter of redefining what’s possible.
