Verita Neuro is a world-class provider of cutting-edge medical treatments such as Epidural Stimulation for spinal cord injury (SCI), which is a surgical procedure that uses an electrical stimulator implanted onto the spines of SCI patients.
Beginning in 2016, we’ve cared for 70 SCI patients from 23 different countries as part of our mission to facilitate “compassionate, customer-centric” medical care for people unable to receive certain treatments in their home countries.
Verita Neuro’s facilities in Bangkok, Thailand, are focused on helping SCI patients take back control of important aspects of their lives that were lost to their condition. With the Epidural Stimulation surgery, patients are regaining the ability to voluntarily move limbs, improving bowel and bladder control, as well as reducing — and in some cases, eliminating — the occurrence of muscle spasms and spasticity.
Studies published in 2013 indicate that 1.7% of the population in the US is affected by paralysis. The statistics on the global scale are at similar levels, so in response to this unfortunate reality, Verita Neuro has gone to great lengths to establish numerous international partnerships.
Our collaborations with clinical and research institutions are set up to expand the knowledge of how Epidural Stimulation works, continue the development of next-generation SCI treatments, and increase their availability around the world.
In December of 2019, Verita Neuro forged a clinical-research partnership with a recognized expert in the field of Spinal Cord Injury Research. That person is Dr. Guilherme Lepski, Professor in the Division of Functional Neurosurgery, Clinics and Hospitals at the University of Sao Paulo.
The first project will be to conduct a robust, 10-patient “Clinical Trial on Epidural Stimulation for SCI Recovery.”
In recent interviews, Mr. Kalwa has expressed enthusiasm at the opportunity to work with the group in Sao Paulo.
“Given our position as a burgeoning Centre of Excellence in Epidural Stimulation surgery, more and more opportunities for collaboration are coming into focus,” said Mr. Kalwa.
“I’m particularly excited about working with such an experienced, expert researcher in Dr. Lepski.”
Dr. Guilherme Lepski is Brazil born and educated, and completed his medical studies in Freiburg and Tübingen, Germany. His specialty is in the area of Functional Neurosurgery, which involves treating movement disorders, brain damage, and severe spinal-cord injuries. With respect to the latter, Dr. Lepski is an expert at utilizing electrical stimulation and various cellular therapies.
Mr. Kalwa has also stated that, “Verita Neuro will support Dr. Lepski’s team with our knowledge of the Epidural Stimulation implant, surgical skill, and a deep understanding of SCI physiotherapy. One of the first things on the agenda will be for us to host and train two Brazilian therapists here in our facilities in Thailand.”
He also spoke about how he feels it is important for both SCI patients and the larger medical community to know that Dr. Lepski and Verita Neuro are working together to improve treatment outcomes for SCI patients.
“If I were to sum up why we pursue these kinds of partnerships, I’d simply say that they’re motivated by compassion and customer-centric healthcare.”
In other words, Verita Neuro is extremely proactive in building these kinds of relationships because they benefit SCI sufferers. To learn more about Epidural Stimulation, please contact a patient representative and they will be in touch within 48 hours.
