What is Brain Stimulation?

Brain stimulation is a widely studied treatment which uses ‘neuromodulation’ – technology which directly interacts with the nerves and helps to replace and restore the lost neural pathways. BrainStim is Verita Neuro’s specialized brain stimulation treatment, tailored to stroke and traumatic brain injury patients. The first step of BrainStim is a surgical procedure during which a stimulator made up of a strip of electrodes is implanted over the motor cortex, the area responsible for movement. During the surgery, our neurosurgeon performs tests to determine the optimal location of the electrode implantation. Once the patient has recovered from surgery, which is usually within only two days, a process called ‘mapping’ begins. During this process, various areas of the motor cortex are stimulated. The stimulation is then combined with task-based activities and physical therapy, which allows patients to regain lost functions. At Verita Neuro, we also provide occupational therapy, speech therapy and IV high dose vitamins to help aid patient recovery.
