Patient progress update on Benaya, one of our long-stay patients in Thailand 🇹🇭, who has been with us since April 2023. In May 2021, at just 19 years old, Benaya …from Israel 🇮🇱 suffered a life-changing C5-C6 incomplete spinal cord injury caused by a gunshot wound. As a quadriplegic, Benaya qualified for the implantation of two epidural stimulators, which has been a cornerstone of his comprehensive treatment program at Verita Neuro. Alongside the stimulators, he has been undergoing stem cell treatment, mapping, and hundreds of hours of physical therapy.
In recent months, Benaya reached a significant milestone: he can now walk using a Pacer with much less support from Therapists. This improvement reflects the considerable gains he has made in his trunk and leg strength, allowing him to better lock his knees and achieve greater control while standing and stepping. His endurance has also improved, enabling him to push himself forward with greater independence.
Benaya’s upper body strength has advanced significantly as well. His right bicep strength has increased, allowing him to lift 1.5 kg compared to 1 kg last year. His pulling strength has nearly doubled, improving from 3 kg to 6-6.5 kg on his right side and from 1 kg to 4-5 kg on his left side. His triceps are much stronger, and despite hand function not being a primary focus, he can now pinch and grab smaller objects, such as beads, showcasing improved fine motor skills.
Thanks to his treatment, Benaya’s knee extensions have seen major improvements, contributing to better standing and stepping abilities. His overall leg strength and endurance continue to progress, making each step toward independence even more impactful.

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Makayla, a 16-year-old from the USA 🇺🇸 with a C3 complete SCI who joined us in Bangkok 🇹🇭 for epidural stimulation surgery …and stem cell treatment. Today, we’re excited to share some notable improvements in her recovery journey.
Makayla’s upper body strength has significantly increased. She now performs more repetitions during her exercises with proper muscle activation, showing improved endurance and reduced reliance on compensatory muscles. Her hand movement and grip have also improved, allowing her greater functionality, though she continues to work on fine motor skills.
In her lower body, Makayla, who previously had no movement in her legs, is now able to stand with the stimulator on and move her legs during stepping exercises. With specialized mapping programs, she’s making strides in hip and knee flexion and extension. Her endurance has also grown remarkably—by the end of her treatment, she was completing 20 reps per set of lower body exercises, a significant leap from where she began. #PatientProgress

You may remember Vivian, from Canada 🇨🇦, who first joined us in Thailand 🇹🇭 for treatment in 2022. Now, she’s back with us in Thailand again for re-mapping. Vivian sustained …a T5-T6 complete spinal cord injury in a traffic accident nearly 30 years ago in December 1993.
Initially, Vivian had low expectations due to the age of her injury, but her progress has been incredible. Since receiving Epidural Stimulation and Stem Cell treatment, she’s significantly improved her core strength, allowing her to sit up straighter and more steadily. Her standing posture is much better, with straighter alignment, and she can now stand for longer periods with less support as her legs bear more weight. Her stepping has also become smoother, giving her greater control during movement.

After a diving accident left him with a C5-C6 incomplete quadriplegia and complete paraplegia in September 2023, Garrett came to …our Mexico 🇲🇽 facility to regain function and independence, hoping for movement in his fingers and more overall control.
Since having two epidural stimulators surgical implanted and stem cell treatment, Garrett has seen significant progress. By the end of treatment, small movements in his fingers became visible, showing great promise for continued recovery.
In addition, Garrett has regained function in his lower limbs, with movements in his hip flexors, quadriceps, and other lower leg muscles. He can fully kick his legs and even partially bear weight while standing. His improved trunk control has given him better stability both sitting and standing, making a difference in his daily life.
